Yesterday, I was at the beach. It was overcast — the sky was full of gray clouds — and it was drizzling very lightly. It was foggy enough to blur the line between the water and the sky. I sat there on the sand, just close enough to the water such that the waves would gently lap at my feet. With a black umbrella tucked under my arm (and Tittiliyaan and Khamaaj on repeat), I read Kafka on the Shore until the darkness rolled in slowly. With dusk came Rashid Khan’s Jhanan Jhanan (chhayyanat is a perfect evening raag). The clouds cleared out just enough to reveal five bright stars, and I walked beneath them until I couldn’t anymore.
It was…perfect.
